These players all played for free at Los Serranos Country Club when they showed up on Bobby Jones Birthday on March 19. They wore their authentic plus fours and a tie.
Come to Los Serranos on March 19, 2012 to celebrate the life of Bobby Tyre Jones in your traditional plus-fours and a tie and “walk amongst us as one of our own.”
Every golfer who shows up in the traditional golfing attire (authentic plus-fours and a tie) will receive a complimentary green fee for the kindness of their participation.
The Jack Kramer family and the staff at Los Serranos feel the birthday of Bobby Jones should be remembered as he was one of the greatest ambassadors of golf and one of the most honorable people this planet has ever known. His life and the way he conducted himself exemplified the game more than any golfer has before or since.
Bobby Jones developed a close relationship with the citizens of St. Andrews, the home of golf, and in 1958 was given the Freedom of the City, which was to officially declare that he was free to walk amongst the citizens of St. Andrews “as one of their own.” The last time that honor was given to an American was 199 years earlier to Dr. Benjamin Franklin.
“Bobby Jones was certainly beloved on both sides of the Atlantic and if we put our attention on a character and a personality that represents the best that golf has to offer, that would be Robert Tyre Jones of Atlanta, Georgia.” - Los Serranos Country Club Senior Vice President David Kramer.
